Googled with Google India MD Mr Shailesh Rao

Googled with Google India Managing Director Mr. Shailesh Rao

An experience worth mentioning, soon after Pragati’s valedictory function was over I was given an exciting opportunity, an opportunity every MBA would accept it without any second thought. I was asked to accompany Mr Shailesh Rao the Guest of Honour of Pragati’08 to airport.

As my mobile alarm sang its tone at 5 30 early in the morning, I woke up remembering my lifetime opportunity, I got ready by 6 and rushed to the ashram office where one of the members there directed me to go to the Guest House.

I found myself ringing room no 402 where Mr Shailesh Rao stayed, Hello Good Morning sir, I said; Good Morning he wished me back and said he will be ready in 15 mins as he had a flight at 8 am on that Sunday morning.

A Lancer car was ready in place to take us to the airport; he came down and chipped inside the car. Heart Beats were on a high note for me as I sat besides an MD of such a great successful organization. He smiled at me, which made me to calm down, and then the moment which I was thinking for a long time became a reality

With a bit of hesitation, I started the conversation
Sir, what do you like about India?
India is a great place with so much diversity. It is a place for me to observe, learn and grow in spiritual as well as in the business perspective.

What do you think about India’s strong growth in the last few years?
Amazing to see, how India is transforming at such a terrific pace leapfrogging in all sectors challenging the developed countries, but what remains a question is that how well India sustain this growth is the perspective we need to focus on. Take china for example is another asian giant leading the world economy. India should learn from China for the sustainable growth. If China and India join together as they are trying for some strong strategic alliance. I’m sure both of them together are going to be the largest economies of the world by 2050.

He then asked about my experiences as a Pragati President, leading the event.
After sharing some exciting events during the preparartions of our event, where in he asked me about conflict management and work delegation experiences, I started googling again, asking the same question about how did he manages his teams and their conflicts
For which he said, “Leadership is an art and team management is a skill”, you need both skill as well as art to be an effective manager. How I work is that I call upon my teams every time a project is assigned, I give them clear guidelines and the expectations from the management. Time and the quality of work is rightly assessed and rewarded in the Google, the best of employees who can deliver under pressure stay with us in our journey.

What is important in choosing a career path?
For which he commented, do what you love to do, irrespective of the position. That will keep you satisfied in the long run. It is very important in this competitive world to match your passion with your career. Develop your competence and stay ahead on the success journey.

As the car reached the airport at 7, he smiled again, and gave a firm handshake and thanked me for accompanying him. I thanked him again saying that it’s my pleasure to do so.

As I was coming back I thought about the opportunity which I had got, an opportunity to cherish for lifetime. Indeed it was a great pleasure Googling with Google India Managing Director about India and his Management practises, so down to earth and so much a pleasing personality, we have lots to learn from him, I said to myself
